Webcomics Wednesday: Retired Super Folk and Split Lip Spooks
The SuperFogeys

Have you ever wondered what happens to superheroes after they pass their prime? I mean, beyond Batman still being a complete bad-*ss (The Dark Knight or an insanely evil, world conquering Hulk (The Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect), of course. Well wonder no longer because creators Brock Heasley and Marc LaPierre have the answer. It’s a webcomic called SuperFogeys and it follows the geriatric antics of several different superheroes and supervillains as they learn to accept life after the cape at Valhalla, a home for the supertired (and get into tons of trouble along the way).

For those of you seeking a story with a more serious tone, Sam Costello’s Split Lip is an ongoing horror anthology that features Costello teaming up with a different artist for sordid tales of terror and dread. I’ve yet to fully emerge myself in Split Lip’s dark world of supernatural horror and suspense, but I found their latest story (A Mother’s Love) is a particularly good start for newcomers. Cured is another short story that will also send chills down your spine, just in time to tickle that last bit of Halloween spirit before Thanksgiving and Christmas roll into town. Thanks to Will Penny from Sex and Monsters for bringing this one to my attention!
Rondal Scott III is an illustrator and graphic designer who tackles each day with Red Bull-induced enthusiasm and is a self-professed Twitter addict. He’s illustrated several independent children’s books and in 2009 his obsession with horror movies and pop culture inspired him to establish the Strange Kids Club, a virtual clubhouse for geeky, pop culture nostalgia.
