Russ Mills Reveals the ‘Absurdity of Human Nature’

Somewhere between the shadows and shades of color lies the work of UK-native Russ Mills. The 31-year-old artist, who graduated from Leeds Met University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Art and Design, focuses primarily on the human form and particularly the face. Beyond that, however, he seeks to “interweave elements from the animal kingdom [that] often reflect the absurdity of human nature.” The results are mesmerizing with washes of abstract color and black and white realism colliding to create an almost ethereal series of portraiture.
