Mural Mondays: Michael LaRiccia’s Ewok Village
I don’t know about you, but Mondays are kind of a drag for me; work is only a few hours away and I’m still feeling sleepy after staying up too late sketching. Luckily, I always see the coolest murals on the buildings on my way to work and they seem to make me feel a little better somehow. So… I thought passing this Monday morning serenity on to you would be a pretty cool thing to do.
Kicking things of this week we’ve got comic illustrator and painter Michael LaRiccia (www.michaellariccia.com), a Xeric award winner, whose Ewok Village mural done for a friend’s nursery is a slice of Star Wars happiness waiting to happen. I would seriously go back to sleeping in a nursery if I got to wake up to this every morning!
A self-published author/comic artist, LaRiccia occasionally teaches cartooning for children and exhibits at alternative comics conferences throughout the country. “Contributing to social change is the reason I continue to work as an artist,” he says. “It drives the content of my work and gives me a sense of purpose.”
His website is full of even more awesome stuff including his narrative work, more process videos, exclusive prints, and even some works he’s done for children’s books. Check it out!

He’s illustrated several independent children’s books and in 2009 his obsession with horror movies and pop culture inspired him to establish the Strange Kids Club, a virtual clubhouse for geeky, pop culture nostalgia.

That is amazing! I want a mural like that on my wall! Thanks for sharing this Rondal, this is awesome. :D
