Hello happy people! It has been awhile since I’ve been able to blog at my favorite illustration blog, but trust me, between moving across town into a new house and transitioning into a new position at my day job, it’s been hard finding time to breathe. Thankfully Rondal is an awesome co-editor and he’s been bringing you all some fantastic content. I’m breaking the silence of my unofficial hiatus to bring to your attention a pretty great design challenge being hosted by some big-hearted people.

Calling all Illustrators!

UncommonGoods is an online store that carries handmade, eco-friendly items and works to bring independent artists to more people. They also do a lot of good in the nonprofit sector and have joined forces with City Harvest, a nonprofit organization in New York that rescues food for the city’s hungry. Together, they are hosting a design challenge: The Harvest Plate Design Challenge.

The Details

The contest has been opened since the 6th and it ends on Thursday, June 16 (midnight), so get your illustrations and designs in ASAP! You can download the contest material and submit your illustration at the design challenge page (there’s even a template there to help get you started). The details from the page say “You may submit up to 5 black-and-white line drawings that evoke City Harvest’s mission to rescue food for New York’s hungry. All artwork must be submitted at 300 DPI 10.5″ x 10.5″ (3150px x 3150px), grayscale, and in a PDF or JPG format. No larger than 2 MB please.”

What does the Winner get?

Well not only will you get that warm fuzzy feeling that comes with raising money for a good cause, but you’ll also win $1000 and your plate will be featured online and in their winter catalog. One of the cool things about UncommonGoods is that with every item they include information about the artist as well. You can check out some of the company’s other “Plates With a Purpose” here.
