Blogging Around Town: DC Fifty-TOO!
It’s the return of Blogging Around Town, the column dedicated to placing the spotlight on some of the illustration world’s coolest blogs that we find while looking for inspiration throughout each week. You might remember in the past that we highlighted Tennis vs. Apocalypse and Springfield Punx, both equally awesome destinations. This week we found ourselves caught up in the buzz for DC Comic’s upcoming, line-wide relaunch called The New 52.
As artists and comic book fans we all imagine ways in which we can make our favorite heroes “better” or “different” and with The New 52 DC Comics is doing just that. It’s a pretty strong statement and one that has faced both criticisms and praise from people from all over the internet. In particular a group of artists led by Washington-based illustrator Calamity Jon Morris have taken on the challenge of re-envisioning their favorite DC Comics’ superheroes in series of cover jams called DC Fifty-TOO!
Rondal Scott III is an illustrator and graphic designer who tackles each day with Red Bull-induced enthusiasm and is a self-professed Twitter addict. He’s illustrated several independent children’s books and in 2009 his obsession with horror movies and pop culture inspired him to establish the Strange Kids Club, a virtual clubhouse for geeky, pop culture nostalgia.
